I have been thinking very seriously about trying another extended fast for even longer than 72 hours. It felt great to do it, and there are a number of benefits to doing it. Also, I have plenty of fat stores to be able to keep myself "fed" for a great amount of time. I think I wouldn't do it unless I first get under the care of a doctor, but I am thinking very seriously of trying this.
I had a "re-feed" today. I ate after not eating for 3 days (72 hours). Immediately after, I felt sick, and I found myself in the bathroom quite a lot. I was expecting to gain some weight, but I only gained 0.2 lbs. That's not too bad.
Starting weight: 415 lbs
Current weight: 360.8 lbs ⇧
Long-term Goal: 145 lbs
Short-term Goal: 359 lbs
My husband is eating the same foods as I am eating. Today he has decided to also fast more than 20 hours a day with me. I advised him not to do it as it is too soon, but he is convinced that he can tough it out and do it. If he wants to try it, I will help him.
He needs to eat far more calories than I eat because he is male, and he can use it far better than I can. I believe he also has more leeway with his carbs than I do. I've been living with this condition of insulin resistance far longer than he has.
I will continue to feed him what I'm eating, but just a bit more of it. He doesn't want to eat lunch at work anymore which will make things easier on me, but I am still very concerned about his hunger. I just know how hard starting OMAD is when you are not yet fully fat adapted. We will see how it goes. I'm going to try fitting more fats into his meal to see if that helps him cope better with the fasting aspect. He is really serious about fixing his blood glucose. I'm proud of him.
In other news, I lost quite a few inches all over my body:
