2017 OCT 28 -- Day 70

Oh, this is much better. It's still not as good as it could be, but I am seeing 377.8 lbs on the scale again. Yay!

Maybe this will start a downward trend if I'm lucky. Who knows. I'm not going to count any chickens. They haven't hatched yet, and that just leads to bad planning.

I really, really, really, truly, desperately want to see 376 lbs on my scale. It will be a small victory, but it will make me feel a lot better than I do right now. I'm stuck at the high point on my graph right now, and I'm very discouraged.

This is a down-blip. I'm happy with that, but I want more. I want to drop lower than my lowest point so far since starting this diet, and the lowest number I have seen is 377.4 lbs. I'm never satisfied; right? Losing roughly 37 lbs is huge! But it's not good enough.

Starting weight: 415 lbs
Current weight: 377.8 lbs ⇩
Long-term Goal: 145 lbs
Short-term Goal: 359 lbs

Never satisfied graph:

How about a recipe? My husband and I liked this one a lot, and I plan to make it again:

Roasted Broccoli with Shrimp

Yield: 4 servings
Prep time: 10 min
Cook time: 30 min

Ingredients
2 lbs fresh broccoli florets (or frozen, thawed)
4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp ground coriander
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1/8 tsp chili powder (or cayenne for an extra kick)
1 lb large fresh shrimp, shelled and de-veined
1-1/4 tsp lemon zest

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F
  • I a large bowl, toss broccoli with half the oil, half the salt, half the pepper, and the chili powder (or cayenne), coriander, and cumin.
  • In separate bowl, combine shrimp, remaining oil, lemon zest, remaining salt, and remaining pepper.
  • Spread broccoli in a single layer on a baking sheet. Roast for 15 minutes.
  • Add shrimp to baking sheet and toss with broccoli. Roast, tossing once halfway through, until shrimp are just opaque and broccoli is tender and golden around edges; about 15 minutes more.
  • Serve with lemon wedges, or squeeze lemon juice all over shrimp and broccoli just before serving.

2017 AUG 30 -- Day 11

I weighed myself before work again tonight. I like these lower numbers. I'm pretty sure this is due to not eating during sleep for at least 6 hours. Whatever the case, I'll take it! Yay! Low number! Starting weight:  415 lbs Current weight:  406.4 lbs  ⇩  Long-term Goal:  145 lbs Short-term Goal:  399 lbs I'm at work. It's 10:30 PM. I've been feeling the hungry growly monster in my tummy, but I've been ignoring him... until now. I'm eating my sandwich. According to the book, you are only supposed to feel hungry when you're body is below its set-point. Is my set point higher than 406.4 lbs? Wow! I need to find out how to lower that a lot faster. How can I make it 145 lbs? LOL. I know the answer to this. It gradually becomes lower over time; I must be patient. The trend is still downward on the whole, but right now it is still well above the first measurement I took at 404.8 the day I got my scale. It's going down, and I saw 406.4 lbs today ...

2017 SEP 1 -- Day 13

I splurged a bit on high-set-point food this weekend. I have regrets. I also have a rather large up-blip as a result. I ate pizza with my favorite toppings which is a very familiar flavor making it a more fattening food according to Seth's theory. Flavor recognition makes food more fattening, basically, because there are very strong flavor-calorie associations. Foods with very familiar flavors are called "ditto" foods, and ditto foods must be avoided. It's possible to change the flavor of the food so it is not a ditto food, but I didn't do that. The result: Starting weight:  415 lbs Current weight:  410.4 lbs  ⇧   Long-term Goal:  145 lbs Short-term Goal:  399 lbs This seems like a huge setback, but I'm going to ignore it for now and just keep truckin'. I'm sure I can drop it again in a few days as I did before. The graph of my numbers since starting is very reassuring. I now know how to regain control. I simply have to remember to use m...

2017 NOV 7 -- Day 80

Woo! 374 lbs! Now we're cookin' with oil! Hehe. I know that's not the saying, but it fits better than "now we're cookin' with gas." I also don't want to have my body associated with gas. LOL My plans are really coming together for Thanksgiving. We do ours the Sunday before the actual holiday so that our friends don't have to worry about fitting our event into their schedules with their own families. We don't really have family. It's just me and my husband. Our family all lives in other states, and we don't have kids or anything. We're free spirits, and our holiday traditions reflect that. Starting weight:  415 lbs Current weight:  374  lbs  ⇩  Long-term Goal:  145 lbs Short-term Goal:  359 lbs Thanksgiving is more of a glorified game night anyhow. We all sit around the giant TVs in our living room and play Jackbox games. It's super fun. My husband also bought the Munchkin board game and a whole bunch of expansions for i...
