2017 SEP 13 -- Day 25

I feel awful. I made an unhealthy food choice today. I don't know if that's the cause of my "icky-sicky" feeling, but if not, it's one heck of a coincidence! I do not recommend doing what I did even it it didn't cause the issue.

I ate a pre-packaged, nitrate-laden smoked sausage. Nothing else. And it has been my undoing! Ugh!

I had nothing but my half sandwich for lunch yesterday at work, and when I got home, I was hangry. I was not just hungry, my hunger was making me mad. I was taking it out on my poor husband. I needed to eat something quickly after taking my oil and waiting an hour. This was the quickest food I could get to.

Don't get me wrong. It was delicious. I love these things. But if this is the cause of how I feel right now, I can easily forego consuming these in the future with no love lost. It's not worth the suffering.

I feel bloated, but I also feel as though there is grease pulsing through my veins. I can smell the sausage on my skin. My whole body feels a bit greasy. And I have a phlegmy cough that won't go away. I feel as though I need to clear phlegm from my airway constantly. This is really unpleasant.

I'm going to avoid eating these in the future. Also, is it a high set-point food? I seem to be plateauing a bit from yesterday to today. I can't break 400 lbs to get down into the high 300s. Bummer.

Starting weight: 415 lbs
Current weight: 400.6 lbs
Long-term Goal: 145 lbs
Short-term Goal: 399 lbs

I was hoping to see 300-something lbs today. At the rate I have been going, it seemed like that would happen. It's not happening.

In the discussion boards there is talk of a "woosh" [sic].  Apparently plateau-and-whoosh is the way SLD works. You drop significantly, plateau, drop, plateau, and repeat as desired. Am I at a plateau? I really enjoyed that last whoosh. When can I do that again?

You can see a bit of how the plateau-and-whoosh happens by looking at my graph. Let's take a look at that.

Plateau-and-whoosh graph:

Yeah. I can really see the plateau-and-whoosh in this graph. My plateaus seem to be 3 to 5 days long, and I whoosh to the tune of 4 lbs over roughly 3 or 4 days. There isn't quite enough data to really see the pattern just yet, but one is emerging. There will be more data soon.

I wonder why it happens. One theory proposed by some in the discussion boards is that the body must readjust to the new weight, and it's shifting things around. I'm likely losing inches instead of weight. I'm cool with that, if that's what is happening. I wonder, though, why the body would require this theoretical readjustment period. I have no theories, and I'm not going to question it. I'm just going to bide my time and not worry about the sciency magic.

For some, it seems that plateaus can take weeks or months. Those reporting these longer plateau periods only have a few pounds to lose compared to me, though. That may make all the difference. I expect to struggle the most when I near my long-term goal. Right now I should be having short plateaus and be whooshing like crazy.

Bring on the whoosh!

2017 AUG 30 -- Day 11

I weighed myself before work again tonight. I like these lower numbers. I'm pretty sure this is due to not eating during sleep for at least 6 hours. Whatever the case, I'll take it! Yay! Low number! Starting weight:  415 lbs Current weight:  406.4 lbs  ⇩  Long-term Goal:  145 lbs Short-term Goal:  399 lbs I'm at work. It's 10:30 PM. I've been feeling the hungry growly monster in my tummy, but I've been ignoring him... until now. I'm eating my sandwich. According to the book, you are only supposed to feel hungry when you're body is below its set-point. Is my set point higher than 406.4 lbs? Wow! I need to find out how to lower that a lot faster. How can I make it 145 lbs? LOL. I know the answer to this. It gradually becomes lower over time; I must be patient. The trend is still downward on the whole, but right now it is still well above the first measurement I took at 404.8 the day I got my scale. It's going down, and I saw 406.4 lbs today ...

2017 SEP 1 -- Day 13

I splurged a bit on high-set-point food this weekend. I have regrets. I also have a rather large up-blip as a result. I ate pizza with my favorite toppings which is a very familiar flavor making it a more fattening food according to Seth's theory. Flavor recognition makes food more fattening, basically, because there are very strong flavor-calorie associations. Foods with very familiar flavors are called "ditto" foods, and ditto foods must be avoided. It's possible to change the flavor of the food so it is not a ditto food, but I didn't do that. The result: Starting weight:  415 lbs Current weight:  410.4 lbs  ⇧   Long-term Goal:  145 lbs Short-term Goal:  399 lbs This seems like a huge setback, but I'm going to ignore it for now and just keep truckin'. I'm sure I can drop it again in a few days as I did before. The graph of my numbers since starting is very reassuring. I now know how to regain control. I simply have to remember to use m...

2017 NOV 7 -- Day 80

Woo! 374 lbs! Now we're cookin' with oil! Hehe. I know that's not the saying, but it fits better than "now we're cookin' with gas." I also don't want to have my body associated with gas. LOL My plans are really coming together for Thanksgiving. We do ours the Sunday before the actual holiday so that our friends don't have to worry about fitting our event into their schedules with their own families. We don't really have family. It's just me and my husband. Our family all lives in other states, and we don't have kids or anything. We're free spirits, and our holiday traditions reflect that. Starting weight:  415 lbs Current weight:  374  lbs  ⇩  Long-term Goal:  145 lbs Short-term Goal:  359 lbs Thanksgiving is more of a glorified game night anyhow. We all sit around the giant TVs in our living room and play Jackbox games. It's super fun. My husband also bought the Munchkin board game and a whole bunch of expansions for i...
